I
completed these three projects this week. I know I stopped
updating the lists on the blog, but I have actually kept up with these
tasks. Watching a new movie each week was not hard at all. You
wouldn't think that finding a new band would be difficult, but there
were a few weeks that I had to search around a bit to find something I
actually wanted to listen to and enjoyed. I often listen to classical
music at work in an attempt to make my brain focus on whatever I'm
doing. I won't stop listening to new bands or classical music, but now I
don't have to listen every week or remember to do so. I will
probably continue to watch a new movie each week just because I like
movies so much.

Three Completed Monthly Projects
29. Write creatively at least once every month. (33/33)

I finished up these three monthly items on my list. I'm counting the progress updates completed because even though there were some months when I didn't update the blog, I was still keeping track of my progress behind the scenes. For example, I keep lists of the movies I watch and the books I read.

I made another pair of earrings with silver glass teardrop beads I found at Michael's a while back. They are simple, but I like the bit of extra sparkle.

I'm calling this complete! I tried several local farmer's markets here this summer and fall. I returned to my favorite place, Market Miller Orchard, multiple times throughout the summer for delicious veggies and fruits. Most recently, I went there to pick my own apples with Sarah. Yum.

I watched both Moonstruck (1987) and Annie Hall (1977) this week to finish up the Romantic Comedy category. Moonstruck stars Cher and Nicolas Cage, which makes for an extremely bizarre pairing in my mind. I'm not a fan. Annie Hall is quirky, exactly what I would expect from a Woody Allen film. I would have guessed that I would like Moonstruck better than Annie Hall. I was clearly wrong.

Complete!
Obviously, the year is not quite over yet. However, my lists are up to date and complete for the purposes of this project. I will be sure to update them with other significant happenings from December. I continued to have a lot of "firsts" this year, especially related to travel. It has been a good year. I am very blessed. Having these lists to look back on one day will prove to be meaningful and entertaining.

71. Cook 25 new recipes. (13/25)
I haven't written about new recipes in over a year... but in the interest of getting this project up to date before it ends in a few days, I thought I should say something about food.
I found an amazingly delicious Pumpkin Pie Pudding recipe that I made for the first time last Thanksgiving. The best part is that it is diabetic friendly and super easy to make. I will continue to make it every year.
Back in the height of my cupcake baking frenzy, I tried four new icing recipes and three new cake recipes. To be honest, I was not particularly happy with most of them. I will probably use one of the icing recipes again, but for cookies instead of cake. It was really more of a glaze anyways. I used it to fill some pumpkin cupcakes, which were pretty tasty.
I made my Mom's delicious Potato Casserole for the first time last month and it was a success. Nothing says comfort like potatoes and cheese. Yummy.
I tried a new recipe for Sausage Balls that I found on Pinterest. The cream cheese made them especially tasty. I tweaked the recipe by using a bag of shredded Mexican cheese instead of just sharp Cheddar.
That's all I remember at the moment. I have tons of new recipes to try, I just haven't found time to make them/I hate using the oven in my apartment. Pinterest has helped fuel the recipe collecting, among other projects.

I read Bram Stoker's Dracula in October for a bit of spooky, Halloween-related fun. I continue to be surprised by how much I enjoy books that I think I will hate. Dracula is quite good. I wrote about it on the book blog here.

19. Read 5 biographies/memoirs. (5/5)

In April, I read Heaven is for Real: A Little Boy's Astounding Story of His Trip to Heaven and Back by Todd Burpo with Lynn Vincent. Burpo tells the story of his four-year-old son Colton's trip to heaven during emergency surgery. To be perfectly honest, I am often skeptical of these types of books. However, this book seemed genuine. There are many details that appear too difficult to fake. The Burpo's story was engaging and kept me turning the pages. I sincerely hope that it is true.
Last month, I listened to Tina Fey's memoir, Bossypants. She narrated it herself and that made all the difference to me. It was hilarious! I highly recommend the audiobook. I wrote more about Bossypants on my book blog, which I'm trying to keep up with again.

26. Go to a concert or musical.
Complete! I actually went to two musicals at Shenandoah University this summer. I saw South Pacific and Aida, which were presented as part of the Shenandoah Summer Music Theatre. I loved both performances. I thought the casting was fantastic and I was extremely impressed with all of the performers.
At the beginning of August, I traveled to The Miracle Theater in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, to see Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and The Miracle, a musical about the life of Jesus. The Miracle was a powerful, moving experience. I actually sat beside the sister of the man who played the devil. She leaned over and said, "That's my little brother." I wanted to tell her that he was perfect for the part because he was amazingly sinister, but that didn't exactly seem like a compliment, so I think I mumbled something lame like, "Oh, really? That's cool."
While The Miracle is serious, Joseph is a fun, fast-paced musical. And now for a sentence that I never guessed I would type: I fell in love with Pharaoh Elvis. In Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, the Pharaoh character is based on "the King," even dressing and speaking like Elvis. It was love at first sight. My suspicions were further encouraged by the fact that Pharaoh Elvis took my hand while singing. Then, he proceeded to sing and dance in front of the stage (also right in front of me). I swear he smiled at me and looked right at me while performing.
Probably, this was wishful thinking on my part. However, if my life were a movie, I believe that at this particular moment, Sarah Chain would have squealed, "They love each other!" Alas, that was not the case and this is CLEARLY getting progressively more embarrassing/crazy, so I'm going to stop now. Moral of this post: I like musicals and enjoyed all of the ones I have seen this summer.

64. Attend 5 community events. (5/5)
Complete! I returned to Harrisonburg in July for HFD's Free Pizza/Free Smoke Alarm event. This year I answered phones and delivered pizza with Chief. It was so nice to be back with such a wonderful group of people. We broke last year's record and delivered 506 pizzas in four hours!

I went to California for the first time in May. I spent a few days in San Diego for work before heading up to Anaheim to visit a friend at Disneyland. It seemed like there were beautiful flowers everywhere in San Diego. I also got to drive out to the Cabrillo National Monument at Point Loma. The views were incredibly gorgeous all along the coast! I definitely want to vacation in San Diego sometime because there is so much that I didn't get to do while I was there. It was fun to visit Disneyland, too. I went to both parks, Disneyland and Disney's California Adventure. I even got to ride the new Star Tours before it reopened to the public. Awesome!
68. See Disney's Beauty and the Beast on Broadway in Roanoke.
Complete! My sister and I went to see Beauty and the Beast back at the beginning of May. I enjoyed the performance. I am always amused by the unique touches that each cast brings to the production.
69. Be a tourist in a new city.
Complete! I went to Chicago for work at the end of April and spent my evenings walking around the city. I loved Chicago and would go back in a heartbeat. Staying downtown and wandering around on foot made my experience more unique. I think I saw more of the true, non-tourist Chicago this way. Although, I did see some of the typical tourist spots, too. Looking back through my pictures makes me want to go back tomorrow.
