I watched An American in Paris this weekend while I was sick. I always enjoy watching Gene Kelly dance. He has such a warm, comical, and engaging presence on screen. In An American in Paris, he plays Jerry Mulligan, an American painter struggling to make a living in Paris after the war. While this is not my favorite musical, there are several wonderful dance sequences, especially the ballet at the end of the movie. I learned that the ballet sequence took a month to film and cost half a million dollars, in 1951!
